How do we make successful models available across the sector?
It has been difficult to share succcesful models of services across the different stages of education and emloyment. But Lifelong Learning Networks made successful models developed by JISC for one part of the sector more widely available.
LLNs are completing their work but there is evidence that some stakeholders will continue funding models for which their is a clear business case, for example ICT services that reduce the cost (and improve the quality) of Advice and Guidance providers.
The use of a personal ePortfolio to support this and other functions in school, college and higher education as the learner progresses in the East Midlands is another example.
As an evaluator for the JISC eLearning programme, evidence of sustainability and engagement of sector skills councils were significant but do not answer the fundamental issue, a consistent means of developing, scaling and replicating successful models in different contexts.
Although there is a proven standard to transfer data between education and employment (HR-XML) the different cultures of higher education and employment represent a major roadblock.
Universities have made detailed proposals for the achievement information they can supply to employers but the demand for information for talent management for Human Resource Management systems has not been reviewed.
Is there a need for a forum in which educators and employers can develop demand led models for how education can prepare people for work and also enable them to achieve both their their employer's goals and personal development through work?
